4th Dimension: Explained (Tesseract)

4th Dimension: Explained (Tesseract) Fourth Dimension:

Are we living in a 3 D world?
It's not sure...
Let's start from the zeroth dimension...
"Points" are the only objects that can be correctly understood in the zeroth dimension...
They have no length, no width and no height...
First Dimension...
When the point is extruded in any single direction, you enter the first dimension...
In the first dimension, everything exists as a "Line"...
Objects in the first dimension can be distinguished based on their lengths only...
Different lines may have different lengths but they do not have any thickness...
Second dimension...
When the line is extruded in a direction perpendicular to its original direction...
We enter the second dimension...
Length and width can be varied to obtain different objects in the second dimension...
Third dimension...
To enter the third dimension, we would extrude this figure in a direction...
Which is perpendicular to both the directions, that is in the direction perpendicular to the plane...
So we get a cube. in 3 d space, Objects differ in their lengths, widths and heights...
Now, we will enter the fourth dimension...
We will extrude the cube not in this direction...
Or this direction...
Or this direction...
But in a direction perpendicular to all the three directions...
When we do this, we get a 4 D object called as "Tesseract"...
It wouldn't be possible for us to see a Tesseract...
Because you, me and everyone of us is entrapped in a 3 dimensional world...
But we can visualize how the projection of a Tesseract would look like in 3 D space...
Just like the projection of a cube in a 2 D space is a square...
This is how a Tesseract would look like in 3 D space...
A Tesseract can be defined by its length, width, height and trength...
The trength is perpendicular to all the other three dimensions...
The idea of higher dimensions might sound exciting. But they would cause real problems if you forget where you parked your car...
