Websites discussed in this tutorial: What makes an engaging pin?
You need to make sure that the pin is aesthetically pleasing to your target market. So other words make sure that you create a pin that your audience isn’t going to mind sharing with others within your niche.
I like to create longer pins so if you’re using Canva the default size is 735 X 1102. However, I like using 750 x 1500 size because it tends to stand out in the feed
Brighter colors tend to stand out in the feed. So if you can use something bright I’d do that, but again make sure that whatever color you choose will appeal to your audience.
Fonts matter people. Make sure that whatever font pairing you choose is legible. Make sure they are legible and that they aid in the message that you’re trying to convey.
This is a meme that’s been shared in many groups, but it really brings home the point.
This sentence in different fonts leaves you with two different emotions.
The first one leaves you all warm and cozy.
The second one leaves you wondering how quickly you can get a restraining order against the person that sent it to you.
So in my case, I like how the Lora and Playlist Script looks together. If you’re not sure how to pair fonts you can use Pinterest for inspiration by font pairings and Canva has a font pairing site as well.
The next thing that you need to think about is what is your message? What is the title of your pin? Honestly, this all depends on what you’re linking your pin back to. In my case, I was linking it back to my podcast. Now when it comes to creating titles, titles that tend to have numbers do really well, play on words, something that will resonate with your audience. Now one site that I love to use when I need to come up with my titles is Co-Schedules Headline Analyzer. You can use this tool to serve as an indicator of how effective your title is. Try to get as close to 100 as you can, but in my experience, if you get anything over 70 you’re good. Now if I’m sitting there and it’s taking me forever to get over 70 or if the title is too long I try to get as close to 70 as I can. In this instance, I got 66 that was fine with me.
Your pin should have a CTA (call to action). What do you want them to do? Of course, we want them to click on the pin but what reason are you giving them to do so. Put yourself in your audience’s shoes, “What’s in it for me if I click on this pin?” In this case, I’m taking them to an interesting piece of content and they have the ability to download a checklist. If you’re doing this for Etsy maybe your call to action could click here for access to our latest deals and lead them back to one of your sales pages.
You need an engaging picture that conveys your message and resonates with your audience. In this example, my goal was to connect with women who love podcasts and convince them that they could start their own. Again, this picture has a woman who looks like she is enjoying whatever she is listening to.
Creating pins is time-consuming. So needless to say there are a lot of jerks out there who will steal pins and link them back to their site. One of the ways you can cut down on this type of theft is to include your website/store name url or if you feel inclined to do so a watermark. Totally up to you.
