The Korean automaker is previewing its futuristic design with an all-electric concept car this year.

STORY-LINE:

This is Hyundai's, "45" all-electric concept vehicle.

The name reflects the number of years since Hyundai's first car went to production - the "Pony" Coupe.

"We have a strong belief that our past design create a roadmap that has made us who we are today," explains SangYup Lee, head of the Hyundai Design Centre and a Senior Vice President at Hyundai Motor Company.

In 1974, the "Pony" Coupe concept became iconinc for Hyundai.

"This marked the birth of Hyundai design DNA. He became an icon for the brand. As you might be able to guess a 45 pays homage to the heritage."

Lee says, the "45" is inspired by the 1920s and is both aerodynamic and lightweight in design.

"The diamond shape silhouette which sits at a 45 degree angle showcases the perfect orchestration between its exacts and functionality. Yet again combines our heritage with our vision while maintaining Hyundai's design identity, sensuous sportiness," he explains.

Lee says he hopes the car will evoke,"animal emotion."

"The Hyundai presence is iconic at the same time the featured, the cutting edge technologies. It also takes Hyundai's lighting architecture to the next level allowing people to instantly recognize it from a distance.

The concept car electric capabilities allows the car to have a flat floor; creating enough space, "that feels like a living room."

Another feature of the car is the seats that swivel to welcome you into the car.

"Emotional values are expanding into more meaningful concept that support all human senses. This will continue in the future and is why sustainability has become very very important inspiration for future mobility design," explains Lee.

The IAA International Motor Show opens today to the media and trade visitors, before opening to the public on Thursday. It will run until 22 September 2019.
