9. Kashi Vishwanath Temple
In India, on the western banks of the holy river known as Ganges, you will find the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. This place is one of the most famous Hindu temples in the world, and one that is dedicated to Shiva, one of the main deities of the Hindu faith. It is also one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, the holiest of Shiva temples.

At times, a site of religious significance has nothing to do with a religious building, but rather, a legend or story that is associated with the place, as is the case with Lourdes, France. 5. Mount Sinai
Mount Sinai is an actual mountain that resides in modern day Egypt, and it is a place that is very sacred to multiple religions around the world. Arguably its most famous story is that of Moses from the Old Testament. In the Bible and other texts, it describes Moses going up the mountain to meet with God. Eventually, he came back down, and with him where the Ten Commandments which were to govern the people of Israel and serve as the literal words of God.
