Fire-able Offense --- CNC Trepanning and Rope Threading on the Okuma Lathe

Fire-able Offense --- CNC Trepanning and Rope Threading on the Okuma Lathe This is a long running job that we run different sizes of in our CNC Turning Dept. This job took a while to dial in but now the parts are getting done and inserts are lasting. We developed the threading tools and trepanning tools. I have this job dialed in pretty well in the video.

Use CNMG inserts for facing using the 100deg corners. I have many used inserts that I can reuse using this facing tool plus the bigger deg edge holds up a lot better. After that we have my father's design CNC Trepanning Tool designed specifically for this job. The bore is 2 7/8" dia and the slug is 1 7/16". Many pieces of extra material that we usually just drilled and turned into chips. Now we have a lot of very good quality material left over.

The biggest challenge was the fat threading. Inside Diameter Rope Threading. Unlike the fat outside thread I designed an insert and holder with the shape of the thread profile and used standard threading operations. I lower the speed of the rotation the deeper the tool cuts. I get about 200 parts or more per insert.

Many of the tools you see are soon going to be up for sale on our new website. Working on it now. I will let you know when it is ready.

Low speed and many cuts but cutting the thread runs smooth
