Scotland has a very good reputation for palliative care, and I support the Scottish Government’s ambition to improve that reputation through the Strategic Framework for Action on Palliative and End of Life Care. Through this framework, it is intended that staff across health and social care will be prepared and supported to work with people and their families to ensure they have the best possible experience at the end of life.
As a member of the Cross Party Group on End of Life Choices and Deputy Convener of the Cross Party Group on Palliative Care, I will continue to represent my constituent's views on end of life choices and assisted dying. We do not choose how we enter this world but I believe that we should strive to afford as much choice as to how and where we wish to leave it.
