I kind of prefer the receded surround versus the Z flex for its user replaceability. my wife also thinks it looks gross, but then again she thinks the ls50s look gross too and I think they're gorgeous so I don't really get it... anyhow the receded surround and soft moulded acoustically inert baffle function like a preliminary iteration of what you see in the blade and it works damn well to allow the driver to sound as if it's just emanating sound from no where. it makes me want to make my own rubberised composite moulds to make baffles out of. it seems like the ideal baffle material and shape. when I switch it sounds like I'm letting the genie out of the bottle or dropping a veil. the q150s sound like a speaker with sound coming out of it, when I switch over to the 3001SEs it sounds like the sound escapes it's cabinet and becomes holographic. the cabinet completely disappears and sound seems to come from a space larger than the box the Q150 is made of.
