Dr. Eric Weiss explains what is a Dental Implant

Dr. Eric Weiss explains what is a Dental Implant In this short video, Dr. Eric Weiss explains what is a Dental Implant.

A Dental Implant is essentially a screw that is placed into the jawbone. It can be made of titanium or ceramic material, which is non-metallic.

A tooth is composed of 2 components—the crown, which is the tooth you see in the mouth, and the root, which is anchored in either the upper or lower jaw and attaches to the crown. When you lose a tooth you also lose the root so you’ll need a new support structure for the crown and that is the Dental Implant.

Once we place the implant into the jawbone, it takes about 3 or 4 months to heal. When ready, the restorative dentist attaches a crown or cap to the implant. We work together as a team to coordinate the treatment and make sure everything is done properly in order to have a great cosmetic and functional result.
