Microtone, the latest creation of Fared Shafinury, is a multi-media concert that explores the dialogue between the long-necked lute (setar), the human voice, the goblet drum (tonbak), and the many sounds of nature, such as birds and crickets. Microtone tells the story of the spiritual drunkness of existence that brings to life Persian microtonal music and classical Persian poetry. Many 8th century philosophers and musicians, such as Farabi, wrote manuscripts that taught and explained Persian maqams through the use of astrolabes. Specifically, the positioning of planets in their orbit would determine the microtonal scales. The most wonderful and obvious natural phenomenon was the orbit of the Earth around the Sun and the Moon around the Earth that inspired and informed the music of that era. These celestial orbits would also determine the correct time of day and night for the correct microtonal scale (mode/maqam/dastgah) to be performed.
Microtone is the story of classical Persian music. It's the story of nature, poetry, the miracles of the universe and the concept of time, where all things are in constant orbit, whirling with that spiritual drunkenness.

تازه‌ترین آفریده‌‌ُ هنری فرید شفیع نوری کنسرتی چند بعدی است: گفتگویی بین سه‌تار، آواز و تنبک که همراه با همهمهُ پرندگان و صدای جیرجیرک‌ها، داستانی از سماع هستی می‌سراید که با موسیقی ریزپرده و شعر کلاسیک ایرانی در هم‌آمیخته و رنگین‌تر شده است. فرید شفیع‌نوری آهنگ‌ساز و نوازنده‌ُ برجستهُ سه‌تار، با اجرای بدیع ریزپرده نشان می‌دهد که بنیاد موسیقی ایرانی مشخصاً از چرخش‌های کیهانی الهام گرفته و با آن در ارتباط است. با توجه به نسخه‌های خطی قرن هشتم و نوشته‌های دانشمند و موسیقی‌دانی آگاه چون فارابی، متوجه می‌شویم که موسیقی مقامی ایرانی در دورزمان، از طریق نقشه‌های اسطرلاب قابل تحلیل و توجیح بوده است. در واقع، چرخش سیارات نشان‌دهنده‌ُ فاصله‌های ریزپرده است و چرخش زمین به دور خورشید و ماه به دور زمین، از نزدیک‌ترین و اعجاب‌انگیزترین الهام‌های کیهانی از مقام‌های این گونه موسیقی به‌حساب می‌آید و تا آنجا پیش می‌رود که زمان صحیح برای اجرای هر دستگاه را تعیین می‌کند. ریزپرده سعی بر این دارد که به این دنیای باستانی و جادویی نزدیک شود. ریزپرده داستان موسیقی ایرانی است. روایت طبیعت و شعر، معجزه‌ُ کیهان و زمان که در چرخشی مداوم، شکل نهایی خود را پیدا کرده در سماع حرکت می‌کند. در این اثر، ترجمه‌ُ شعرهای فارسی به انگلیسی توسط خود هنرمند انجام شده است. فرید شفیع‌نوری با بهره‌گیری بی‌سابقه از یک اثر هنری گرافیک متحرک و همراهی رقص سماع، ریزپرده را از دیگر اجراهای موسیقی سنتی ایرانی متفاوت کرده و نقطه‌ُ عطفی به کارنامه‌ُ هنری خویش افزوده است. تا به امروز ریزپرده با همراهی رامبد درگاهی، نوازنده‌ُ چیره‌دست تنبک و سازهای کوبه‌ای، در چندین شهر آمریکا از مله آستین، مارفا، هیوستن، سانفرانسیسکو و آلباکرکی به اجرا در آمده است. آلبوم این اثر بزودی با همکاری مرکز ایران‌شناسی ساموئل جُردن در دانشگاه کالیفرنیا در ارواین به بازار ارائه خواهد شد. ریزپرده روز شنبه یازدهم ماه ژانویه ۲۰۲۰، در Gindi Auditorium، واقع در شهر لس‌آنجلس، روی صحنه خواهد رفت.
