Last Leg: Sailing to the Canary Islands | Float On Ep24

Last Leg: Sailing to the Canary Islands | Float On Ep24 Morale hits rock-bottom as while we contemplate the remainder of our journey with no main-sail, the auto-pilot also gives up the ghost. But you can’t keep us down for long and we find humour in the prospect of four days hand steering to our destination.
The dangers of sailing are not always obvious – we did not realise that hallucinations are quite a common thing after trying to rescue a group of drifting sailors in the middle of the night who simply were not there! We also witnessed land, houses and rocks, in the middle of the ocean, Dolphin tour boats, chickens, ducklings and even dead bodies rolling in the surf – none of which were actually real… Exhaustion and sleep deprivation can cause very real dangers out there.
As dawn breaks on the sixth day, we finally catch a glimpse of the Rock of the East, the first major piece of land visible as you approach the Canaries from the North. Another four hours sailing down the east coast saw us pulling safely into a slip in Marina Lanzarote, Arrecife.
Far too much happened to us to squeeze it all into one episode, so this is part two of the whole trip – the first half of the journey and the events therein are revealed in our previous episode. However, if you want to see more of what happened to us, head over to our Patreon site with a bucket of popcorn to watch our feature length movie! Ninety minutes of pure sailing adventure!
