It All Depends on You Helen Ward and Charlie Shavers - Chicago 1953

It All Depends on You Helen Ward and Charlie Shavers - Chicago 1953 In the Spring of 1953 the Benny Goodman Orchestra commenced a joint tour with the Louis Armstrong All Stars. Early on Benny became seriously ill and Gene Krupa assumed the leader’s mantle for the duration. In May of that year the tour passed through Chicago and vocalist Helen Ward had a date with an 8 piece group that was a hybrid of the Goodman and Armstrong bands. Trummy Young and Cozy Cole were the participants from the Armstrong All Stars. Charlie Shavers, Georgie Auld, Rex Peer, Steve Jordan, Israel Crosby and Krupa were the Goodman participants. For some reason local Chicago pianist Roy Kral was on the date instead of Teddy Wilson or Joe Bushkin. Helen is truly exquisite on the ballad “It All Depends on You” which also has a splendid muted trumpet solo by Charlie Shavers. Enjoy!
