What does happiness really mean? Most of us defines it as having a lot of money and worldly things. If somebody have got a nice Mobile phone, a nice car and an amazing looking house, we say he is very happy in life. But psychologists might disagree with this. These things can buy you temporary joy but they can't make you happy in the long run.
Happiness is actually a state of mind. And I will explain it to you. Suppose you become rich and you buy everything that you ever wanted in life. And at this point you feel awesome about your life. But as the time goes by, you become used to with all this facilities. So these worldly things no more excites you.
Similarly Suppose you face a really harsh tragedy in you life. You become very sad. You feel heart broken. You Imagine the world has come to an end for you. But as time passes you start to feel less sad. Once again your life turned to your normal routine how you used to be. Now when you became rich you felt tremendous joy and when you became sad you felt really bad. But both of these conditions were temporary.
So genuinely how happy are you in life is determined by the "peace of mind" that you have. Your behavior and perception of different situations decide whether you feel cheerful or discontent. More you have studied people, more you understand them, and more wisely you let them effect your life and your peace of mind. You don't let them change your mood that easily. you don't depend on them for your good mood.
I've also included a study done by Harvard University on this Subject. It's the world's longest study on Happiness. Study started almost 80 years ago, and is still running. Two groups were made when this study begun. First group included the kids from the good families, and the students from the Harvard College. Other group included the poor kids of Boston City. Those kids whose parents weren't that rich. Or they were actually quite poor.
After Studying all these lives for so many years, what they concluded will surprise you. They wrote " What makes us happy and keep us healthier are the good relationships. Those people who had good relationships with their families stayed happy and more healthier as compared to those who hated each other.
