Here’s the large version of the Gemmy golfing Santa, which I got along with the large version of the Santa with marionette. Gemmy made even bigger versions of some of these too, but I’m not sure if there’s a jumbo version of this or not. They were in a lot on eBay for only $11 free shipping. He came in pretty nice costmetic shape, though I did clean his pants. He didn’t move, which I figured was a locked up motor. That wasn’t the issue, but I’m still not sure what exactly the issue was/is. The mechanism must’ve worked at one point, right? Maybe this is defective or something, but this hasn’t had any split gears, the motor runs fine and everything, but the mechanism will not work when it’s closed. As soon as you put the cover on it just jams up. And I swear it can’t go together any other way. And it’s not like it’s hard to put the mech cap on either, it slips on super easy. I looked at each gear individually and there’s nothing wrong. I looked to make sure, and at no place does the mechanism casing touch the actual gears, even when it’s completely closed. It only touches the shafts. And I can’t just take the top cover off and cover it with play doh or anything, because the cover has pieces that attach to it that are needed to make it work, and to even hold the Santa up. One option I haven’t tried is replacing the motor, which might do the trick, but it doesn’t seem weak when the mech cover isn’t on. I held the gears and the motor could run a surprising amount of resistance. So I ended up barely screwing in any of the cover screws to the mech, and I propped the sides up with nuts. As you can tell the motor still has a terrible time running, but it moves and that’s the important part I guess. And the slowing of the motor is obviously not caused by the weight of the Santa, as the motor obviously speeds up when the Santa is being lifted on one side. Whatever. I’ll probably go back into this next summer and replace the motor to see what happens, but I don’t have time now. Guess that’s all there is to say.
