A (thumb) Tacky Wedding Gift

A (thumb) Tacky Wedding Gift The extra details I promised:

Article to creating guide image in Photoshop:

Things I like about this method:

I really like what he's done in his approach because he's done the quick bit, (reducing colours used to 6) and he's gone a few steps further by showing how to morph the pixels into a hexagonal packing arrangement for circular objects, as opposed to the less efficient square packed matrix that pixels usually come in. He's even provided pattern icons that let you pinpoint the centre of the circular spot you need to place the pins at. +144 Respect points for being thorough.

Things to note:

We got the guide image printed on an A0 sized piece of matte paper from Printo.

You should reduce the resolution of your image as much as possible and crop out useless details. Each pushpin is basically a pixel, so a 120x75 image is already 9000 pins you'll have to manually hammer in.

Also, the physical diameter of each pin is ~9mm. Consider the size of your canvas, and remember to give yourself a little bit of breathing room between pins.

The 6 colours we used were:
Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Black, White

I found a guy who'd sell us pins of whatever colour and quantity that we wanted, at Rs 0.20 per pin.
Sameer Push Pins: +91 9999022806

I wrote some code to count exactly how many of each colour we would need before placing the order. Photoshop does not tell you that kind of information.

Always buy ~150 pins more than you need for each colour. The pins are weighed and sent to you; not counted. You could get more or less than you ordered for. Err on the side of more.

Use a hammer. Your thumbs will thank you later, and it will make things a lot easier.

Happy creating!
