December Volunteer Tip Video - Establish A New Tradition

December Volunteer Tip Video - Establish A New Tradition Most families have family traditions — habits, routines, or special practices that help them stay connected and build a sense of unique identity. Traditions are powerful! So have you ever thought about starting a new tradition with the students you lead? You should! Traditions have the power to give teenagers a much needed sense of safety, belonging, and identity. That's important for a teenager, but it's also important for our group, because before most teenagers need to feel like they belong here in our church community before they choose to believe in the Jesus they hear us talk about. So here’s an idea. Next time you're hanging out with a group of students that you lead, try to come up with a new tradition. Maybe it's something you practice every time you're together, or every time someone new joins the group, or every time it's someone's birthday. Maybe it's something you do once a year, or at Christmastime, or once a month, or at the end of the school year. It could be something fun, like baking cookies, or telling knock-knock jokes, or going to each other's basketball games. Or it could be something more meaningful, like always closing in prayer, or writing each other notes of encouragement, or serving others together. The traditions we practice have the ability to bind us together, to create new memories with the people we love, and to remind us of the memories we’ve already shared. So start a new tradition, and make your time really count.
