Perilous

Perilous Did you know that the English word, perilous, is used only once in the King James Version? It is found in second Timothy, chapter three, verse one. This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.


In previous tutorials, we’ve learned the definition, synonyms, and antonyms of perilous.
In addition, the word perilous is an adjective that describes and modifies a noun, whether it be a person, place, thing, or idea.

In the second recorded letter to Timothy, Paul describes times as perilous. Times, in plural form, being the noun and perilous, the adjective. Paul is writing to Timothy to inform him that there will be dangerous times in the last days.

In the Textus Receptus (Latin for received text), the word for perilous is chalepoi. Chalepoi is a masculine gender plural adjective from the Koine Greek word chalepos. Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible defines chalepos as difficult, i.e. dangerous, or by implication, furious.

After defining the English word perilous and the Koine Greek term chalepos, we come to the conclusion that Paul is warning of dangerous times that will befall the last days.

You may be asking, “Why will there be perilous or dangerous times in the last days?” “Who is to blame?” “When will perilous times begin?” “ Are we living in dangerous times now?” If the Lord God wills, there will be more tutorials on the study of perilous times in the days ahead.
