Rectum is the last part of the large intestine where motion comes and gets collected and then it comes out of anal canal for defecation to clear the bowels. So rectum is a 15 cms long tube and any disease occurring in this like any new growths, then we don’t know what is the diagnosis, and we have to confirm it by histopathology or biopsy. For that a bit of tissue is taken for biopsy to the pathologist who will study it under microscope and tell what sort of disease it is, whether it is a benign or a non dangerous disease or it is a cancer or a dangerous disease. So a rectal biopsy is done to confirm the diagnosis, not that for everybody we will be doing we will suspect a disease and we will be doing, it will be done using a rectoscope or a colonoscope, a small bit is taken for the wall of the rectum and send for testing .
