First African Journalism Institute Seminar at Lagos University | Cyprian Ekwensi Present | July 1966 Monday, July 4th 1966.

Soundless footage of the first African Journalism Institute seminar held at Lagos University. The Institute had been formed by the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) so as to arrange short-term specialised training for journalists throughout Africa.

This was the first of three such seminars; the first two in English with Lagos being the venue of the second and a French-speaking one to be held at the University of Abidjan in the Ivory Coast.

Present at the seminar were: Dr. Saburi Biobaku, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos; Mr. Gabson Akinsete, the Administrator of the Institute; Alhaji Babatunde Ajose, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Daily Times; and Cyprian Ekwensi, the writer who was also the Director of the National Ministry of Information.
