The owner returned from overseas and found his beloved cat lethargic. Could pee little. Abdominal palpation: Very large swollen bladder the size of a mango. Drops of bloody urine. Urethral obstruction.

Gas anaesthesia only. Urethral catheterisation releases bloody urine. X-rays show the distended bladder is full of sand. Blood tests pending. Inpatient for 3 days. IV drip.
