Still Learning To Jump In My Forties - The Pump Track

Still Learning To Jump In My Forties - The Pump Track Earlier this year I set myself the challenge of learning to jump. As with most new-year goals, that quickly went out the window. I preferred to just bomb down my favourite mountain bike trails. It was much easier and a ton more fun.

However, my mate Sam has been continually egging me on to finish the job. Sam is an ex bmx racer and as such has jumping in his blood. This week we headed over to a local pump track to start my jumping lessons again.

Why the pump track? I was going back to basics. While I can ride down technical trails I have no clue as to the mechanics of jumping a mountain bike. Sam wanted me to get a feel for the lift off and contact points as the bike rises before a jump and upon reception.

For an old man of 43, the pump track didn't come all that natural to me :( Let's hope it gets better over the coming weeks.
