Myth That Tunnelling is Expensive

Myth That Tunnelling is Expensive I probably couldn't have chosen a more controversial topic to kick off with.
There is a general perception that Tunnels and Underground space are more expensive relative to surface solutions. Well, as the need to create more space or to more effectively use existing ones in our Urban areas increases, a premium will be placed on Tunnelling and Underground Space Use (Singapore is a perfect example).

In this episode, I have managed to draw our attention to the lifecycle benefits as a yardstick of determining value from the onset. I appreciate that a case by case analysis rather than a one size fits all approach should be adopted and rightly so.

We will however not argue that the relative cost of sustainably developing or perhaps re-developing our cities will continue to generally favour Tunnelling and underground solutions and our emerging African cities can greatly benefit from this approach.
