Safety Integrity System

Safety Integrity System In this video, Trevor Strother explains Safety X’s Safety Integrity System, a method to guide the integration of workplace safety into organisations.

The workplace safety focus tends to be on the relationship between people doing work and their workplace. A range of systems and process are developed and implemented to manage this relationship in the expectation that work is done safely.

However, what is missing is the recognition that people/work interface is influenced by all that occurs within the organisation such as:
• Culture
• Resource allocation
• Performance Management
• Budget management
• Leadership and work-site supervision
• Workplace relationships

Based on systems theory, organisational development and behaviour practices and the OECD Guidance on Developing Safety Performance Indicators related to Chemical Accident Prevention, Preparedness and Response our Safety Integrity System recognises that influence and the impact they have. It supplies a framework to assess, find improvement opportunities and make changes in the broader organisation that may provide better outcomes rather than focussing solely on safe practices and procedures.

The Safety Integrity System include the following Primary (Lag) Indicators:
• Organisational and Team Culture
• People and Job Attributes
• Integrity of Work Processes
• Delivery of Performance Expectations
• Continuous Improvement

Each Primary Indicators consists of Secondary (Lead) Indicators which are supported by the types of behaviour (Tertiary Indicators) you expect to see if that indicator is contributing to safety performance as expected.

In this video you will learn about Safety X’s Safety Integrity System and the principles behind it including:
• Systems Thinking, Organisation and Leadership.
• The five components of Safety Integrity
• Safety Integrity Indicators and Competencies
• How the Safety Integrity Framework can be used to influence safety
outcomes.
