NOTE: Al Katz was an American dance bandleader who founded his orchestra in the 1920s in Kentucky. In the mid-1920s until early 1930s they had their headquarters in Chicago; they toured as a popular novelty & comedy band in the Chicago metropolitan area and the Midwest. The Kittens also performed on the East Coast, including New York City. Al Katz recorded under his own name as well as various pseudonyms for Columbia, Victor and Gennett. He remained active as a bandleader until the end of the 1940s before dissolving his orchestra. In 1947 his name appears among musician in the Spike Jones comedy dance band. At that time he also recorded as a singer several Jewish comedy songs.
Al Katz’s 1925 recording of the later very popular jazz standard "Ace in the Hole" is considered as one of the Chicago hot bands classics of the mid-late 1920s.
