Rather than take responsibility for the problem they had created by their emphasis on a date, the Governing Body predictably retreated to its habitual "beating" of the brethren. The solution to decreased numbers, plainly, was increased the emphasis on preaching -- and return to using the traditional proof-texts which justify such emphasis.
