Thank you Geekling Creations for sending out these realistic fairy ear tips so quickly & to Lumecluster for the beautiful pendant that works so wonderfully with this steampunk fae look!

First I should get the the question of "where can we get / how can we make those flapping mechanical wings?!"
1. They aren't currently for sale because there were still kinks to work out
2. Thankfully Crooked Feather has a tutorial coming up soon for making flapping wings so please watch for that!

Now that that's out of the way, welcome to the first ever Fancy Fairy Wings & Things Iridescent Wings tutorial. You'll learn how to construct fairy wings with iridescent film, poster board and wire, no glue required! I'll spill some wing making secret recipes to feed your crafting appetite.

Use the SVG file to cut the vein framework out of the poster or bristol board either by hand with an Xacto knife or with the Cricut Maker - or the Air, or a Silhouette Cameo, etc. I only know the settings for the Cricut Maker though.
You could use your own design, make sure it's either original or a design straight from nature to avoid copyright issues. Never just download something from Google search results, you can get in big trouble!

Cut 8 pieces of wire to shape along the top and bottom edges of each wing panel, bending the ends into an 'L' shape facing inward.
Cut length of iron-on-vinyl to fit wing frame, peel back the liner and place cut board frame and wire into place on the sticky side of the vinyl.
Once in place, roll out iridescent film on top, keeping it stretched.
Smooth over loosely with your hands, then again with more pressure to get bubbles and wrinkles out.
Use the Easy Press or a heat gun to heat the film, press and smooth down, with your hand in the kevlar protective glove. Repeat on other side.
When done heating, cut film into shape with the hot wood working tool or soldering iron, wiping the tip down with the soldering cleaning pad to remove any excess.
Shape a length of wire into a 'U' shape or open rectangle roughly 5 inches wide and 5 inches tall, tape each panel's 'L' shaped ends to the 'U' brace with the electrical tape.
Shape brace to fit your back, gently bend wing panels to your liking, and you're done!
Now you can flitter around any renaissance faire or faerie fest in a life-like set of wings.
