Even though they had a nanny to care for them while she was away with Prince Charles, the Princess of Wales made no secret of the fact that she wanted her children to experience life just like anyone else and not grow up with a sense of entitlement. She had them stand in line for fast food, play at London parks and, even after Diana died in 1997, it seems like the Duke of Cambridge was inspired by her approach. Royal baby SHOCK: How the Queen 'told crude JOKE' after meeting baby Royal baby: How William reacted with SHOCK to a royal baby photocall  After completing his studies at Eton College, William went on a gap year during which time he took part in British Army training exercises in Belize, worked in English dairy farms, travelled around Africa, and taught children in southern Chile for 10 weeks. By 2001, William was back in the UK and had enrolled at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. A few days before starting his course, the Prince told The Guardian about his time off from education. He said: “I loved my gap year and I wish I could have another one, but the best bit was in England.   “I loved working on a farm before foot and mouth, which is partly why I’ve got so much sympathy for the farmers who have suffered so much. “I got my hands dirty, did all the chores and had to get up at 4am. “I enjoyed the fact that I was put in as a hand and was just another guy on the farm.” According to the report, the Prince, who worked as a farmhand for a month between an Operation Raleigh trip to Chile and a three-month visit to Africa, was paid £3.20 an hour. William also reportedly told the publication he wanted to be treated like an ordinary student at St Andrews, yet the traditional introduction to university life, in which first year students forge their first bonds with each other, missed its most high-profile fresher. In the report, the heir to the throne explained he missed Freshers' Week because he had feared that intense media interest would have overshadowed the student frolics and ruined it for himself and others.
