Clint Eastwood starred in what is arguably one of the best Western films ever made, way back in 1966, called; The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. The title of this old spaghetti western provides a pretty accurate outline for our passage of scripture for this Sunday; Acts 13:44-52. There were Good responses to the truth. There were Bad responses to God’s Word. There were Ugly reactions to the message of God’s grace. It is a Good thing when people respond positively to the Truth. It is a Bad thing when people attempt to distort the Word of God. It is a truly Ugly thing when people try to prevent others from hearing the Gospel message. People responded in these ways 2000 years ago when Paul and Barnabas proclaimed the truth. Men and women around the world continue to have Good, Bad and Ugly reactions to God’s Word even today.
How is your response?
Don’t be discouraged when those around you respond unwisely. Keep on proclaiming the grace of God. Never lose hope. God is at work. Keep on praying and loving and sharing. For, even though Satan is working hard to multiply those who are Bad and Ugly in their response to God’s message, God is actively and powerfully multiplying those who react with a Good and open heart. Satan may be mighty, but God is Almighty. And God wins in the end. By all means “…continue in the grace of God.” Acts 13:43
