Lesson 7: Promoting Your Website

Now that your website is finished let's talk about ways to promote it. To promote your website you’re going to want to be familiar with your web address. If you think all the way back to lesson four, I showed you how to add a domain name to your site. Hopefully, by now you’ve committed that to memory :D. Sharing that domain name is going to be key to promoting your website.

There are three main places you can promote your website right now.

Sharing on social media → 0:32

This is obvious. If you have an Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, or Pinterest account, those are all great places to share your web address/domain. And if you remember from lesson five, sharing in those places should help you get better ranking on Google.

Paying for advertising → 1:13

I know people don’t like paying for things, but believe it or not, sometimes it just makes sense. There’s no better way to guarantee that your website will be seen than signing up for Google Advertising. We at least try and soften the blow by providing you a coupon in your account:D

One nice thing about advertising online is that it will get you some exposure. That exposure many times turns into getting those coveted backlinks that are necessary for top ranking on Google.

Offline → 2:06

This is probably the one place to promote your website that’s overlooked the most. Your domain name needs to go on your business cards, brochures, car magnets, flyers, and so on. Getting your domain name in front of people will absolutely lead to more business.

WebStarts → 2:27

Finally, you can promote your website through the tools we provide at WebStarts. You’ll find the following on your account Dashboard...

Traffic Booster → 2:34

Although we submit your website to Google when you upgrade to a paid plan, Traffic Booster is a way to get that process to happen routinely. When Google crawls your site regularly and finds new content, the algorithm sees you as being more relevant. That means better ranking.

Listing Express → 3:01

Listing Express is perfect for those situations when the site information Google has for you requires a refresh. With Listing Express, your site will get recrawled right away as opposed to having to wait. Think of it as the fast way to update the info displayed in your search result.

Local Listing → 3:21

Local Listing is perfect for businesses who are targeting a specific geographic region. This gets you found when people do a search in Google Maps and from their phone.

Congratulations! You’ve completed the course. You’re now ready to show the world your skills. If you’re really into it, check out the Designer Platform. It’s a way to launch your own web design business using WebStarts.
