‘Jeopardy!’ winner James Holzhauer is ‘astounding’: Ken Jennings

‘Jeopardy!’ winner James Holzhauer is ‘astounding’: Ken Jennings While some naysayers bemoan James Holzhauer’s 28-game (and counting) “Jeopardy!” winning streak as “boring,” Ken Jennings has another word for it: “Astounding.”  And he should know — only Jennings’ record of 74 consecutive games won and $2,520,700 in prize money stands between Holzhauer and the top spot in the “Jeopardy!” record books for both win streaks and money won.  Holzhauer’s earnings currently total $2,195,557.  Jennings told “Good Morning America” Tuesday that he can’t help but be “really excited” about Holzhauer’s fierce game play.  “For 15 years, I have thought somebody was going to make a run at this record, because I always knew it could be done,” Jennings said. “I was there. I saw it happen. What I did not expect was somebody could make a run at the cash record in, like, a third the time.”  On Monday night, while the rest of America reeled from Memorial Day celebrations, Holzhauer decimated his rivals en route to win No. 28.  The 34-year-old from Las Vegas emerged from the match with $130,022 — just shy of the $131,127 record he set back in April for single-game earnings.  Will Holzhauer — a professional sports gambler — topple Jennings tonight? Find out when “Jeopardy!” airs at 7 p.m. on ABC.
