Newark fire: Nine fire crews rush to HUGE BLAZE – black cloud billows over Nottinghamshire Firefighters are battling the blaze which broke out in a scrap metal yard on Great North Road, just off the A46, near to the British Sugar factory. Locals are being advised to keep "their windows and doors closed" as there is "a lot of smoke". Fire crews from Lincolnshire and Leicestershire have also responded to the site. The A616 Great North Road has been closed and motorists are advised to “avoid the area if possible”. We have sent nine appliances because 1,000 tonnes of metal is on fire. "There is a lot of smoke in the area and we would ask people around the surrounding area to keep their windows and doors closed."A huge fire has broken out near Newark (Image: EXPRESS) The fire service also tweeted: “Firefighters from across Nottinghamshire, @LincsFireRescue and @LeicsFireRescue are dealing with a fire on #GreatNorthRoad in #Newark which is omitting a large smoke plume.
