It's a really odd feeling when you leave your dock knowing your boat will not return unless you sail all the way around the world to get there. It's a combination of very exciting and scary at the same time. It's also quite normal feeling, like we're just going for a day sail - but also quite a relief that after years of planning, the day of our departure has finally arrived. In this episode we check in on everyone's feelings and expectations. A small group of friends and family see us off the dock and we have one of our best nights ever at anchor. It was truly beautiful that evening, which helped all of us soak in the excitement for what lies ahead. What a wonderful world - to see!

ABOUT US - THE SAILING FAMILY: We're a family of five sailing around the world on a performance catamaran. Ten years ago, before kids, we sailed S/V HONEYMOON from Annapolis to Sydney, Australia! We started what is probably the very first Sailing Vlog, and now we're back at it again, but this time with our kids!
ABOUT OUR BOAT: Our new boat is a 51 foot, Ferrari red, performance catamaran named ARCHER. It was built by Outremer, a famous catamaran company with a 30 year pedigree of making fast, offshore capable cruising cats. Even the word Outremer means "Over Seas" in French, so you know the design brief has been to create a safe, well built, reliable cruising boat, with a touch of high-performance characteristics to help it sail upwind and clock large distances daily. As a 51 footer it is very comfortable inside and it might just be the perfect boat for a family sailing around the world.
OUR GOAL is to spend as much time as possible with our kids during these formative years - making lasting memories that expose them to the greater world and teach them to appreciate how lucky we are. Seth put his career on hold, we sold everything we owned, we rented our house and we bought a boat! We hope these videos will help us all remember this incredible voyage. Unlike other sailing vlogs, we are not doing this for the views, but if you want to come along, please do!
SETH learned to sail when he was 12 years old on Lake St. Clair outside Detroit. He's raced competitively on J105s, J24s, Wianno Sr's and several other boats. He's even spent a day practicing with Oracle Team USA during the 33rd America's Cup. But he loves cruising with this family, surfing, kite surfing, fishing, photography and video editing. He's the CMO of Vacay Inc, Elizabeth's start up.
ELIZABETH likes sailing, but it's more of a means to travel than a passion. She's been all over the world and loves seeing new places - but she hates to pack! With this in mind, she left Gap Inc and created her own clothing company that creates 5-piece collections that mix and match to create two weeks of different outfits. OUR BOYS are best buddies. HALE, the oldest, was born in 2010 and loves all things sports related! RHYS was born in 2011 and is our future model/surfer/engineer. PIERCE was born in 2013 and is our little man with a big heart for animals and a need to keep up with whatever his big brothers are doing! They all miss their friends and home schooling hasn't been easy, but they are loving sailing and seeing the world. A good bon fire on the beach and they couldn't be happier.
OUR ROUTE has taken us from the Boston/Cape Cod area of the United States down to the Caribbean and then on to the Panama Canal. We're now in the South Pacific and are aiming for New Zealand by Christmas - and then a complete circumnavigation by 2021.
